Event description

Description

Spend this year's Australian Reading Hour with us, your school library!

Australian Reading Hour is a call to read! It asks Australians to commit an hour of Thursday, September 19th to read either alone or to a child in their lives. As we move further from the habit of regular reading, and especially from reading aloud to young people, we lose an activity with enormous benefts for mental health, cognitive development, social well-being and more.
This year we will host a sausage sizzle at 5:30 (gold coin donation, please) and then from 6pm we will have some guest readers share favourite poems, parts of books, and even some plays. That will be followed by some time for adults to do some reading with the children in their lives, young and old.

We passionately encourage families with students in the mid and upper primary to come along. This is where we see a dramatic drop in reading aloud. We hope this event reminds both adults and students of the joy in sharing a story.

We encourage parents to borrow any books they do not finish on the evening and keep up the reading at home.
