About this event

Join us in the Pauline Gandel Children's Quarter for a special Story Talks event to launch the 2022-24 Children's Laureate!

We can't tell you who it is yet, but we promise that you will love them, and you may have some of their books sitting on your bookshelf right now!

During a special launch workshop, students will explore the Laureate's love of the supernatural, and learn how Eastern culture and mythology are central to their books and illustrations.

This is a partnership event with the Australian Children's Laureate Foundation (ACLF) and the Story Talks series supported by the Gandel Foundation.

Pauline Gandel Children’s Quarter, also supported by the Gandel Foundation, is a purpose-built space for children and families to read, learn and play, with an associated program of activities.

State Library Victoria is Australia’s oldest public library and a beautiful heritage building located in the heart of Melbourne. The Library’s distinctive spaces, from the 19th-century Ian Potter Queen’s Hall, to the contemporary theatrette are host to a diverse range of vibrant programming for all ages. Boasting beautiful surrounds, the Library is a welcoming place to languish on the lawn, play a game of giant chess or take in a pop-up event on the forecourt. Free exhibitions line the balconies of the majestic domed reading room; see Ned Kelly's armour and Jerilderie letter, Burke and Wills relics and a host of other treasures.

Enjoy books, music, newspapers, and free wi-fi and lockers.

Open daily, with a cafe and bookshop onsite.
