Event description

Description

Exploring motivation, addiction and decision-making!

The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health proudly presents the inaugural Australian Appetitive Motivation Symposium.

Featuring plenary sessions by Professor David Redish (University of Minnesota) and Professor Bernard Balleine (University of New South Wales), and presentations by local, national and international researchers, the inaugural Australian Appetitive Motivation Symposium (AAMS) aims to bring together basic and clinical scientists that are interested in the general field of appetitive motivation. This event will highlight timely and relevant research on the neuroscience of motivation, addiction, and decision-making. This year, the symposium will be centred on three major topics: addiction to alcohol and drugs of abuse, homeostatic and/or hedonic intake of natural rewards, and the neural processing underlying decision-making. Registration is free, however RSVP is essential for catering purposes.

Poster competition

In addition to presentations, there will also be a poster session and reception at the end of the day. All are welcome to submit posters, from students to lab heads, and a prize will be given for best poster. Poster abstracts are limited to 250 words, and may be submitted to the Organising Committee at bmm-lab@unimelb.edu.au by November 13, 2018. Note that the maximum size of the poster boards is 1.8 metres tall by 1.2 metres wide.

The Symposium is hosted by the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, and the Brain, Mind and Markets Laboratory, and will be presented in the Ian Potter Auditorium in the Kenneth Myer building at 30 Royal Parade, Parkville.

Please see our site at bmmlab.org/aams18 for more detailed information on the day's program.
