Description

The biggest, brightest and most diverse showcase of Australian wine in Europe

With more than 100 grape varieties grown across 65 distinct wine regions, we have the freedom to make exceptional wine, and to do it our own way. Find out what makes Australian wine unique at the Australia Trade Tasting.

Our annual trade tasting will give you a taste of Australia’s exciting and diverse styles of wine, from classic to contemporary, rogue to the refined. You’ll discover wines from some of our most renowned regions, to the lesser known. Some of the wineries you’ll be familiar with, but others you might not have come across before.

This is also your chance to meet the people behind the wines – a number of winemakers and winery owners will be flying over from Australia to pour their wines and share their stories.

At the tasting, don’t miss these new elements:

- Aroma Wall with The Australian Wine Research Institute
- Free-pour focus table – the theme is Women in Wine
- Launch of Australian Wine Discovered, our new education programme

You are also invited to attend one of our three master classes, led by industry experts and winery principals. These offer an opportunity to taste a diverse range of wines and gain insight into Australia’s unique styles and regions.

Strictly one master class per person - please choose carefully which one you would like to attend. If you register for more than one master class, please note that we will adjust this.

12noon - 1pm Australian Sparkling Wine with Ed Carr

Aussie sparkling stars are shining brighter than ever. From cool climate, high altitude regions and exuding purity, elegance and complexity, Australian sparkling wines are challenging the best in the world. Join legendary House of Arras winemaker Ed Carr, recently awarded Lifetime Achievement Award at The Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships, to taste an incredible line-up of Australian sparkling wines. Covering a number of regions including Tasmania, Adelaide Hills, Orange and Henty, some of the wines are already in market and others will be new discoveries.

2pm - 3pm An Insight into the AWRI’s Flavour Research

Con Simos, Group Manager at the Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI), will summarise their recent studies in the variability of key grape and wine flavour compounds and how these can impact on wine styles and regionality. As well as sharing findings from their flavour research, the seminar will include sensory recognition of the key compounds and a tasting of selected wines. This session will show that world class research and innovation helps Australia to continue to make attractive, distinctive and complex wines.

4pm - 5pm McLaren Vale’s Alternative Side

McLaren Vale's old vines and 180 years of winemaking experience has revealed a new generation of winemakers that are pushing boundaries and starting new traditions. Find out how winemakers are experimenting with alternative varieties and new styles to create something extraordinary. Explore the diversity of McLaren Vale and the innovative spirit of the region's winemakers in this master class, led by The Wine Detective and McLaren Vale Ambassador, Sarah Ahmed.

We're delighted to welcome back our friends at Brickwood Coffee & Bread. They’ll be running an Australian pop-up café with a selection of tasty, unique Australian treats.
