This immersive and blended model of professional learning supports school communities across Australia and the Pacific to build an international school partnership.

BRIDGE includes reciprocal visits for teachers in both countries to visit their partner schools and learn first-hand about each others’ culture, community, and school class.

Through online and face-to-face professional learning in Australia and the Pacific Islands, BRIDGE:

  • builds teacher capability and pedagogy to connect classrooms to the world and grow sustainable school partnerships.
  • develops global competencies in students across Australia and ASEAN by facilitating student online collaboration, supporting language learning, building digital capability, strengthening intercultural understanding and developing life-long friendships across the region.
  • establishes sustainable school partnerships and a community of learners.
  • encourages students to learn about and develop an interest in the region, as well as explore opportunities such as the New Colombo Plan and Australia Awards post-schooling.

Within the program, teachers from participating Pacific Island nations will be invited to travel to Australia to take part in a four-day professional learning program with their sister school representatives from across Australia to explore the new partner relationships and how to plan for sustainable school partnerships through intercultural understanding and the use of new technologies in teaching and learning.

Both the Australian and Pacific country homestay visits for all BRIDGE teachers are designed to develop and share professional best practice and provide opportunities such as:

  • partnership planning
  • classroom observation
  • team teaching
  • participation at staff meetings
  • curriculum team meetings
  • parental engagement
  • school excursions
  • incursions for teachers to form an understanding of their partner countries education context

Australian teachers will then be given the opportunity to visit their sister school in late 2018 or early 2019.

For Australian schools: Foreign language ability is not a requirement to take part in this program, although it can offer added learning outcomes.

Should you have any further inquiries, please contact a member of our team at or (03) 8344 3590.

Please note we are now taking expressions of interest for all 2019 BRIDGE Programs. More information can be found here.
