Event description
Every two years Cochrane Australia hosts a symposium designed for people who produce and use evidence to inform health practice and policy.

About this Event

At this year’s symposium we are marking two notable milestones for Cochrane.

The long-awaited new version of the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions is officially released in October and will soon be in the hands of eager reviewers. The updated guidance has been meticulously planned and brings together the latest methods and empirical research to help us produce the most reliable evidence syntheses.

Two areas of guidance that have undergone substantial development are how we consider bias among studies and how we make best use of available data when planning and conducting synthesis. Two full-day courses, led by the Handbook chapter authors, will cover both these topics.

Earlier this year Karla Soares-Weiser became Cochrane’s second editor in chief. As well as having a long-standing connection with Cochrane that goes right back to the beginnings of the organisation, Karla also led a successful systematic review consultancy before becoming deputy editor of the Library in 2015. In her first visit to Australia in her new role, Karla will set out her plans for the Cochrane Library and the future of review production within Cochrane.

As well as hearing from Karla, there will be opportunities to hear from others about what’s happening in Cochrane, including tech updates (RevMan Web, Covidence), KT initiatives, and snapshots of the new Handbook.
