Event description

Description

OPTION 1: Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary Numbat trail | 12 km Loop | Difficulty: Grade 3 | Time: 4-6 hours

OPTION 2: Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary Possum trail | 3 km Loop | Difficulty: Grade 2 | Time: 1-2 hours

***NOTE*** both hiking trails come with the same ticket purchase.

Located within the Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary, the Numbat Trail is a challenging 12 kilometre loop with spectacular views of the surrounding Avon Valley. With fences around the sanctuary there is an abundance of native fauna and flora along the well maintained paths.

Directions - Getting To Paruna requires turning off the Roe Highway onto Toodyay Rd and heading up Red Hill. Once you have marvelled at the sweeping views of Perth travel a little further and make the left turn at O'Brien Rd. After 17kms of twisty roads snaking their way through green fields and dense forest you will reach the left turn for the sanctuary at Avon Rd (2.3km past the Ewing Rd turnoff). Make your way on the gravel track that is now signposted and soon you will be at the parking area in front of the main gate. Enter the code you were given by the sanctuary and prepare for a few hours traversing one of the best trails in Perth.

1. Possum Loop (2.3 km, 1 – 2 hours, easy rating) - The shortest of the Paruna trails this beautiful trail is suitable for almost everyone. With spectacular woodland, wildflowers, creeks and waterfalls this trail is highly recommended for families with children, older walkers and the less physically fit.

3. Numbat Track (12 km, ca. 6 hours, medium-to-hard rating) - This solid day walk also incorporates parts of the Quenda and Possum trails. It provides a wonderful challenge to experienced walkers and will reward them with a wide variety of natural features from creek lines to granite outcrops and wildflower displays to open Powderbark forest. This trail is only suitable for very fit bushwalkers.
