A unique opportunity to see this globally renowned speaker in Hobart.

The first lecture day will include local speaker Assoc Prof of Oral Health Leonard Crocombe discussing the local burden of caries. This will be followed by a seminar with Prof Jo Frencken discussing minimal intervention dentistry centred around Atraumatic Restorative Treatment.

The second hands-on workshop day will allow participants close supervision with Prof Frencken and colleagues to perform ART on typodonts and extratced teeth. A Hall technique hands-on workshop will be available in the afternoon with local paediatric specialist dentist Dr Marilyn Owen.

Jo Frencken was the Associate Professor in Minimal Intervention Dentistry and Head of the Department of Global Oral Health at the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands before his retirement in 2015. He obtained a MSc degree in Dental Public Health from the University of London and a PhD degree from the University of Nijmegen. He has been employed as a private practitioner, researcher, university lecturer and policy maker in three African countries for 13 years between 1977 and 1997. He also served as an epidemiologist/researcher at the Netherlands Institute for Preventive Health Care for 3 years. His current interest covers minimal intervention dentistry c.q., prevention and minimal intervention techniques, in particular the Atraumatic Restorative Treatment approach for managing dental caries, and oral health services in deprived communities. He has published extensively (over 160 publications) with colleagues from many nations. He currently supervises 6 PhD candidates from 5 countries. The Academy of Dentistry International awarded him the title of ‘International Dentist-of-the-Year’ (1998-99) for his international leadership in the dental profession. He holds a Guest Professorship at the University of Wuhan, China and at the University of Cordoba, Argentina. He was awarded a Honorary Professorship at the Maimodines University in Buenos Aires, Argentina and a Doctor Honoris Causa from The National University of Cuya in Mendoza, Argentina in 2015. The Government of the People’s Republic of China awarded him the 2015-International Science and Technology Cooperation Prize, the first dentist ever to receive this prestigious Prize. The Swedish Panel Board awarded him the 2016-Yngve Ericsson Prize in Preventive Odontology and the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) the 2017-H. Trendley Dean Memorial Distinguished Scientist award.

Does entry to the lecture allow entry to the workshop as well?

The lecture day and workshop day are complementary to eachother but it is possible to book as separate days if needed. If you wish to attend both the lecture day and workshop day then tickets for both days need to be purchased

Long-day parking is available at various locations. Taxis and buses are available

What's the refund policy?

All cancellations must be received by email, mail or fax. For cancellations received within one (1) week of the course date, a full refund less than $50 (incl GST) administration fee will be issued. No refunds will be issued after this date, however a substitute delegate can be nominated with advice of changed details in writing. Cancellations or notification of a subsititute delegate must be sent to the Vice-President, ADA Tas

Which oral health professionals is this seminar availble to?

Oral health professionals that are able to perform Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) and Hall technique on patients. This includes dentists, dental therapists, oral health therapists, hygienists with extended scope of practice and oral health professional students that will be able to perform ART

Can I bring my own instruments?

There will be instruments and materials available for attendants of the workshop day but feel free to bring your own instruments if you wish. If you use loupes it is advisable to bring them to the workshop session
