Does the idea of studying overseas whilst playing your favourite sport appeal to you?

Come along to our athletic scholarship seminar in RHLT1 in Rutherford House at Victoria University, to find out how you can unleash your potential on the world stage! You’ll get exclusive information on how to apply to US universities on a sports scholarship, and hear from speakers who have experienced first-hand life as a US college student-athlete.

We will cover the following:

- The US university admission process
- How to make your athletic scholarship application stand out
- Timeline for US university applications
- US athletic scholarships and funding
- The costs of studying abroad and how to navigate the US financial aid process
- Where and how your chosen sport fits into the US university process
- What experience you need to have in conjunction with your sporting ability to get into a US college
- The benefits of studying overseas: employability, experience, independence, networking and more!
- The main reasons New Zealand students apply to overseas universities
- Campus life in the US
- Access to world class athletic facilities
- Requirements and support from an athletic and academic perspective
- The US academic testing/qualification process - SAT/ACT
- When to start preparing for SAT/ACT
- Course requirements for NCAA division 1&2

There will also be a Q&A session at the end, with Tessa Berger and Maddison Earle; top athletes who studied in the US on athletic scholarships!

Featured speakers:

Tessa Berger
Head Athletic Consultant
Tessa is an Epsom Girls Grammar School graduate and attended Florida Gulf Coast University on a Division I full athletic scholarship, studying majors in business management and accounting with a concentration in entrepreneurship. She earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average, gaining prestigious Presidents List honours. Tessa has represented New Zealand on the international stage for the past decade in her chosen sport of football. Most notably, she competed in the FIFA Women's World Cup and received the honour of being named ASB Bank Young Sportsperson of the Year in 2011. An entrepreneur, Tessa established her latest business venture, The Merchandise Collective, a merchandising enterprise distributing New Zealand made clothing and apparel worldwide. She currently serves as President of Mahurangi Action Incorporated, a 40 year-old environmental organisation, and is the Chairperson and one of six trustees formally consented to serve on the Mahurangi Coastal Trail Trust. Most recently, at 21 years-old, Tessa stood as an independent candidate in the 2016 Local Body Elections. She was successfully elected to Auckland Council, serving the Rodney Ward.

Ben Thomas
Senior Academic Advsior
A US/UK academic specialist, Ben studied s BCom/BSci AoA with a major in Finance and Applied Mathematics. Ben is a Senior Academic Advisor at Crimson and will be covering off all the important infromation that you require to excel in an athletic scholarship application, such as GPA & other valuable information.

Maddison Earle
Maddie gained admission to Harvard University and was recruited to the Harvard Field Hockey Team. A Chirstchurch local, she sat the IB diploma in her final two years at St Margaret's College in New Zealand, where she received the top A grade for her english extended essay. Maddie was approached by 5 out of the 8 Ivy League universities, inclusive to Princeton, Dartmouth, Columbia and Cornell but chose to be apart of the Harvard Class of 2020. She is currently concentrating in Neurobiology and Pre Medicine, with the hopes to attend medical school as a postgraduate student. Maddie is passionate about extracurricular and leadership activities, and believes this is a crucial part of becoming a well rounded person.
