Description

Are you interested in learning about the latest assistive technologies to help your clients be more independent? This workshop series aims to provide student and new graduate Occupational Therapists with an overview of assistive technologies (AT) available. Each workshop will provide participants with an overview of a particular equipment area and include;

  • What AT is available?
  • Who the AT is suitable for?
  • What features are available?
  • What requirements you should consider for your clients?
  • A hands on look at the variety of AT.


Wed, 18 September 2019: Wheelchair Basics (SOLD OUT)
Learning Outcomes:

1. Identify key features of different types of wheelchairs.
2. Understand the process to select and evaluate a wheelchair choice.
3. Skills for using a wheelchair.
4. Identify the needs of the user and key stakeholders in selecting a wheelchair.
5. Current evidence-based practice around wheelchair selection.


Wed, 25 September 2019: Hoists & Transfers (SOLD OUT)
Learning Outcomes:

1. Have a basic understanding of the current legislation impacting on hoist and sling standards in Australia.
2. Identify different types of hoists and standing transfer aids and their uses.
3. Identify different types of slings and their uses.
4. Demonstrate measurement to determine appropriate sling size.


Wed, 16 October 2019: Paediatric Equipment
Learning Outcomes:

1. Understand the process for assessment and prescription of paediatric equipment.
2. Identify different types of paediatric equipment for children with a range of disabilities.
3. Identify features available on various paediatric equipment.
4. Discuss relevance of each piece of equipment through interactions/hands on experience.
5. Identify funding options available for paediatric equipment.


Wed, 23 October 2019: Pressure Management (SOLD OUT)
Learning Outcomes:

1. Identify pressure management strategies including specific equipment (different types of pressure care cushions and mattresses).
2. Ability to discuss the uses of foam, gel and air in relation to pressure management.
3. Ability to set up a pressure management cushion.
4. Current evidence-based practice regarding the selection of pressure care for consumers.


If you would like to attend all 4 workshops the cost is $175.


Each attendee will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of each course.
