Event description

Description

In the early seventeenth century Galileo developed a rudimentary telescope that changed our view of the heavens forever. Subsequent technological advancements have allowed us to utilise the full extent of the electro-magnetic spectrum in order to better understand the universe and our place in it.

The recent detection of gravitational waves, first predicted by Einstein, promises to open new windows to the cosmos.

This talk introduces the many tools astronomers now have at their disposal and illustrates the astonishing results achieved.
