Many people with asthma overestimate their level of symptom control compared with guidelines. Close to one third of patients with moderate to severe asthma under-use preventer medication and up to 90% of people prescribed inhaler devices do not use them correctly. There are many opportunities for pharmacists to assist people to better manage their asthma through education, good device technique and reference to written asthma action plans.
The Asthma Update for Pharmacists covers the essentials of best-practice asthma and respiratory management for pharmacists. This workshop is appropriate for pharmacists only and includes a practical device session.
