Event description

Description

Assisting a person who has fallen, is uninjured and can’t get up can pose a real problem for caregivers. Manually assisting someone off the floor is one of the most hazardous manual-handling tasks caregivers assist with and is a major contributor to workplace injury.

The transfer from the ground is best completed with a mechanical aid. The most common way of transferring off the group is with the use of a hoist but how do we effectively use a hoist to transfer off the ground and is the hoist always the best option?

This workshop will explore the procedure for hoisting a client off the ground and the things to look out for during this transfer. It will also ask the question if the hoist is always the best option and compare using a hoist to alternative options. You will learn to implement objective measures in making clinical decisions as to the most appropriate assistive technology device to transfer off the ground. You will discover all the opportunities to avoid manual handling you many not have noticed before, just by the item of equipment you choose and how you use it.
