Event description

Description

Do you work for a not-for-profit or health provider and would like to find out how you can get involved in the Local Government Public Health Planning process?

The Public Health Act 2016 requires Local Governments to develop Public Health Plans. The health and wellbeing of communities has always been a high priority for Local Governments and as the closest tier of government to the community, Local Governments are best placed for community Public Health Planning.

The First Interim State Public Health Plan highlighted the importance of partnerships in the Public Health Planning process. Join Know Injury for this workshop as we discuss how not-for-profit, community organisations, and health providers can become involved in partnering and assisting Local Governments in the Public Health Planning process.

This session will:

  • Provide an overview of the Public Health Act and its impact on Local Governments
  • Outline local Government Public Health Planning processes and how they relate to Local Government business;
  • Highlight how best to Advocate for and raise awareness of your health area of interest when it comes to Public Health Planning in Local Governments
  • How to partner and support Local Governments with the Public Health planning process
  • Explore how to engage and be heard in community engagement and consultation processes.
  • Case studies and information to assist organisations and individuals to engage and partner with Local Governments in Public Health Planning

Delivered by Injury Matters Partnerships and Sector Engagement Lead, Samantha Dowling, has over 15 years’ experience in the health industry having worked across the sector in executive and strategy roles in government, private and not-for-profit organisations.

Samantha has extensive experience in population and public health planning, program design, evaluation, policy development, data analysis and strategic planning.
