Event description

Description

The Victorian Chapter of ASME has been running a Student Composition Project since March 2017. Its aim is to create rich, classroom resources with each classroom a collaborative space where students can learn from each other. As part of the project, two workshops will be presented at the Deakin University campuses in Geelong (Waurn Ponds) and Burwood.

Using the picture storybook by Mark Wilson, titled 'Migaloo, The White Whale’ - a true story about a rare white whale that travels each year from the Antarctic to the Queensland coast - the workshops will show teachers how to create their own music in order to include composition in their own classrooms.

The workshops are suitable for primary school teachers, both specialist and generalist, and junior secondary teachers as well as teacher trainees. They will be presented by Michael Travers, award-winning classroom teacher at St Matthew’s Primary School, Fawkner North, and Ros McMillan, former Head of Music Education at Melbourne University.

The cost is $10 for teachers and $5 for students. Bookings are essential as places are limited.
