Artist Talk with Catherine Truman - Shared Reckonings
Event Information
About this Event
Established, South Australian artist Catherine Truman invites you to attend an Artist Talk as part of the 2021 Adelaide Festival. During this special talk she will share the background, inspiration and stories behind her most recent art exhibition Shared Reckonings.
Catherine works across the disciplines of art and science and her latest exhibition of works, Shared Reckonings is presented in the Santos Museum of Economic Botany and the Deadhouse within Adelaide Botanic Garden.
The works have been influenced by powerful themes: the catastrophic bushfires that swept the country last summer, climate change-induced biodiversity loss, and the global pandemic.
When: Four dates are available for this talk:
- Saturday 27 February, 11am - 12noon
- Wednesday 10 March, 2pm - 3pm
- Friday 12 March, 7:30pm - 8:30pm (including a night tour to the Dead House)
- Sunday 14 March, 4pm - 5pm
Shared Reckonings , which is also featured in the 2021Adelaide Festival program, is the artist's creative response to an extraordinary year of research undertaking two concurrent residencies at the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium and the Flinders Centre for Ophthalmology at Flinders University.
Working across the disciplines of art, ophthalmology and botany, Truman has embarked on a quest to explore the role that light plays in human vision and the growth of plants. The resulting body of work comprises five installations of objects, some that are photoluminescent, and eight experimental films.
