Description

The Rotary Club of Appin Park Wangaratta is pleased to invite artists to enter the Wangaratta 44th Art Show. The Show will be held from Thursday 2 November until Sunday 5 November 2017 in Wangaratta. This event coincides with the Wangaratta Jazz and Blues Fesitval.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we have a prize pool of $7,750 available to artists.

Entry for art work: $10 per entry. Maximum of five entries (art pieces) per artist. Registrations must be received by 13 October 2017.

The Gala Opening will commence 6pm on Thursday 2 November, 2017 at 6pm. Tickets are $30pp. Gourmet canapes and local wines will be provided and opening night guests will have an opportunity to inspect the paintings and reserve items for purchase.

Art Show prize winners will be announced by Judge Geoff Paynter, at 7.30pm.



Categories and prizes

We value our participating artists as the quality of the entries has helped grow this into a major regional art show. Please see below the categories and prizes on offer:

  • Section A: Oil or acrylic painting: $3,000 prize, sponsored by Pentarch Industrial
  • Section B: Watercolour or gouache painting: $1500, prize, sponsored by Wangaratta Motor Group
  • Section C: Pastel painting (acquisitive): $1000 prize, sponsored by Wangaratta Motor Group
  • Section D: Work in any two-dimensional medium (other than categories A, B, C and E) ie. collage, textiles etc. not to exceed 1m square: $500 prize, sponsored by Charles Sturt University
  • Section E: Drawing or artists print: $500 prize, sponsored by R & M Gibb
  • Section F: Painting, drawing or print of some aspect of North East Victoria: $500 prize, sponsored by The Regional Development Company
  • Section G: Black and White Photography: $500 prize, sponsored by Garry Nash & Co
  • Creative Excellence Award, Selected from above sections. Work of art in any medium that demonstrates outstanding creativity: $250 prize sponsored by Wangaratta Picture Framing.


The show is held at the Uniting Church Hall, 10 Rowan Street, Wangaratta.



Frequently Asked Questions

How do I deliver my works?

Each work must be ready to hang commercially, with name and address and section entered and title clearly lettered and fixed to the back of the entry. Any transport and insurance costs must be met by the artist. All possible care will be taken but no liability will be accepted by the organisers for any loss or damage to works of art. If there is insufficient space to hang all entries, the organisers reserve the right not to display some entries. However, all entries will be included in the judging.

Delivery of Works: Works are to be delivered between the hours of 10am and 4pm on Monday 30th October or Tuesday 31st October 2017 to the Uniting Church Hall, 10 Rowan Street, Wangaratta.

Return of unsold works?

Return of unsold Works: Unsold works may be collected from the art show on Monday 6th November, between 9.00am and 1.00pm. Please note that it is the artists’ responsibility to follow up with couriers and ensure that work is delivered on time and collected and returned to the artist if unsold.

When do entries close?

Entries close 5pm on Friday, 13 October 2017. Artists must pay their entry fee via this Eventbrite site ($10 exhibitor’s fee per item must be paid prior to exhibit).

Can I attend the Gala Opening from 6pm on Thursday 2 November?

The Art Show prize winners will be announced by our Judge, Geoff Paynter, at 7.30pm at the Gala Opening on Thursday 2 November. Artists are most welcome to attend, and will need to purchase a ticket.

What if I win a prize?

We are not able to pay via cheque. All prize money or proceeds from exhibit sales will be paid electronically. Please provide banking details on your registration form.

How many pieces can I enter?

A maximum of five entries is permitted per artist.

Are all entries for sale?

All works entered for the exhibition must be for sale. Category C acquisitive winning painting is retained by the sponsor and will not be available for sale. All sale prices must include GST (where the artist is GST registered) and an inclusive 25% commission applies.

Anything else I should know?

Work entered may be reproduced by any form of the media (including the printed catalogue) for publicity purposes only. Artists may be asked for interviews from local newspapers. All care will be taken but no responsibility will be accepted for loss or damage to any work.
