About this event
ABOUT
Interested in increasing the visibility of women on the world’s most popular online research tool, but don’t know where to start? The Art+Feminism Wikipedia edit-a-thon is a global event that addresses the under-representation of women, feminism and the arts on Wikipedia.
Across four virtual sessions in August, join Dr Louise R Mayhew for a special Wikipedia editing circle. You will be guided through the process of selecting a woman artist, researching and writing their biography, and honouring their career by publishing your article on Wikipedia. Meet with other editors to share discoveries, and chat about tips, tricks, hurdles and solutions.
SESSIONS
Week 1: Wednesday 5 August | Choosing
Where to begin? The first session will explore how to choose a woman artist and Wikipedia’s requirements for “notability”.
Week 2: Wednesday 12 August | Researching
Discover strategies for researching women artists and hear about Wikipedia’s requirements for “verifiability”. Explore resources on your chosen artists through QAGOMA’s research Library and beyond.
Week 3: Wednesday 19 August | Writing
Write a Wikipedia biography with attention to structure, tone and content, and learn about Wikipedia’s requirements for “neutrality”.
Week 4: Wednesday 26 August | Publishing
Hear about other Wikipedia editors and how articles are reviewed, and discuss the process for making your article public.
