Event description

Description

Enjoy a sneak preview of some of the books in the forthcoming exhibition ‘Art on the page' by Special Collections Librarian Susan Millard. In the first half of the twentieth century, Paris was a flourishing hub of artistic activity that allowed an unequalled exchange of creative ideas. Artists of many nationalities converged on Paris, stimulating an extraordinary cross-fertilization of original and inventive work. The book became a unique medium for this experimental collaborative vision, producing works that would rival works on gallery walls. Many of the major artists, sculptors and writers of the time contributed, such as Picasso, Miro, Tzara, Matisse, Eluard and Delaunay. This European tradition has influenced artists in Australia, producing beautiful artwork alongside text and generating strong collaborative circles including Petr Herel, Peter Lyssiotis, Inge king and Bruno Leti.
