Join artist and academic Dr. Drew Pettifer for a discussion of this important and exciting exhibition which includes works from the Kerry Stokes and WA museum collections. A Sorrowful Act: The Wreck of the Zeewijk unearths hidden queer histories within the broader context of Australian maritime history.
Drew Pettifer is an artist and a Senior Lecturer in the School of Art at RMIT University, where he currently leads the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) Program, Hong Kong. Drew’s art practice explores themes of intimacy, gender, sexuality, power, the archive and social politics using photography, video, installation and performance. Drew is currently a member of the Shepparton Art Museum Artistic Advisory Committee and the Australia Council for the Arts Peer Assessment Panel. He is also a qualified solicitor and works from time to time as an independent curator and writer. His work is held in various collections, including the National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of South Australia, and Monash Gallery of Art, as well as private collections nationally and internationally.
