A look at the classic still life. First of all, for some inspiration, we will look at the still life through the eyes of Frida Kahlo, William Edggleston, Juergen Teller and Wolfgang Tillmans. Then we will set up some still life’s with objects in the studio and take some photos. And for the tech we will take a look at resizing photo files in photoshop and then exporting for web/email or printing.
Tuesday 18 October - Photo. The Street
Inspired by the passing of Bill Cunningham.
This week we will look at the work of Martha Cooper, Jun Ahn and Vivian Maier + Martin Parr and Sydney’s own Garry Trinh. Then Oxford St beacons for a perfect spot to take photographs for the practical project. And for tech an introduction or revisit to the ISO, aperture and the shutter.
Tuesday 25 October - Video. A scope of sorts.
Starting with Pippilotti Rist, Tracey Moffatt and Andy Warhol + Theresa Hak Kyong Cha and Peter Campus. Warhol’s screen tests will provide the inspiration for our practical project + on the technical side of video first of all setting the ISO and aperture and then importing files.
Tuesday 1 November - Video. Narrative non Narrative
So much inspiration when wondering about to Narrative or not Narrative! Agnes Varda, Chantal Ackerman, Isaace Julian, Robert Altman, Stan Brakhage and the wonderful Heath Franco and Kate Mitchell.. For prac we will piece together a small video together to look at what one might see is narrative or non narrative and on the technical side of things we will story board and do the first steps to editing.
