The Pulse Chamber Orchestra will perform music from Howells, Purcell, Handel, Russell, Russell, Mendelssohn and Whitlock alongside organ virtuoso Phillip Gearing .

PHILLIP GEARING is a freelance musician, formerly a Senior Lecturer in Music at the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba (1992-2014). Phillip has wide experience as an organist, chamber musician, Lieder accompanist, orchestral keyboardist and choral director. He has performed throughout Australia and in Britain, France, Germany and Scandinavia, where he has been broadcast on radio. Previously organist of St George-the-Martyr, Queen Square London (1985), Director of Music, St Luke’s Toowoomba (2007-12) and Acting Organist, St John’s Cathedral Brisbane (2013-14), Phillip is currently Director of Music at St Mary’s Kangaroo Point, Organist at St John’s College University of Queensland, accompanist to St Peter’s (Lutheran College) Chorale, keyboardist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and organ tutor at the Anglican Church Grammar School, St Peters College and St Laurence’s College. Phillip is also a director of the Organ Historical Trust of Australia. In 2007 Phillip released his CD Celebrate to mark the centenary of the organ at St Luke's Toowoomba – one of a handful of solo recordings of a Queensland organ. Phillip has also enjoyed recent opportunities to devote more time to composition, mostly of sacred choral works. His seven-movement choral cycle Pro patria mori has been performed throughout Australia and recorded by the Winthrop Singers of the University of Western Australia; Only the light has been performed and recorded by Canticum Chamber Choir; and his Missa brevis was premiered at St Stephen’s Cathedral in 2017.
