“Wynyard Park was originally a military parade ground associated with barracks along its eastern, southern and western sides that were constructed between 1792 and 1818. The open space between them was known as Barracks Square, also the Parade Ground. In 1848 Victoria Barracks in Paddington were completed and the facilities around Barrack Square dismantled. Subdivision took place and York Street was extended to Margaret Street and beyond”
This Heritage Walk will showcase significant buildings in and around this historically important space. Following our walk we hope that attendees will join us at the Australian Heritage Hotel at 100 Cumberland Street for lunch or simply a drink.
