Australian Rural Leadership Foundation

This year, we are celebrating 25 years of leadership investment and development in rural, regional and remote communities. This celebration will provide us with an opportunity to reflect on past achievements, acknowledge outstanding contributions and celebrate the ongoing impact of the organisation.

We are commemorating the year through a variety of initiatives and events with the aim to:

  • Raise our profile
  • Promote our alumni
  • Acknowledge the contribution we have made in developing leaders for rural, regional and remote Australia.


Program Outline

Graduation Ceremony and the 2017 John Allwright Memorial Address


Each year, we host the John Allwright Memorial Address.  The address is given by a significant Australian with well-known and respected leadership capacity and knowledge of rural Australia.

Given the additional significance of this years address, the 2017 John Allwright Memorial Address will be co-presented by one early and one later graduate.

The presenters will be:

Sarah Crooke – Course 1, Gondowring Victoria. Sarah with her family, operate Gundowring Fine Foods in the Kiewa Valley.

Matt Barwick – Course 21, Newcastle, NSW. Matt is currently the Coordinator for the National Carp Control Plan for the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation.

The ceremony will be followed by a light lunch.

Location: Visions Theatre

Dress Code: Business attire.


Regional Australia Leadership Assembly


Calling all rural, regional and remote leaders! Here is your chance to join a dynamic, passionate and driven group of representatives of all facets of rural life to examine the leadership needs of regional Australia.

This event is part of a series of events to be held across regional Australia in late 2017 and early 2018 with the support of the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

The assembly will be followed by light refreshments.

Location: Peninsula Room.

Dress Code: Business attire.

ARLF 25th Anniversary Celebration Gala Dinner


The pinnacle of the day’s events, please join us for a Gala Dinner to reflect on past achievements, acknowledge outstanding contributions and celebrate the ongoing impact of the organisation.

Beginning at 6pm with a cocktail reception, the main dinner will begin at 7pm. Each table seats 10.

Keynote Speaker: The keynote speaker for the evening will be the military trailblazer, Major Matina Jewell (Retd) CSP.

  • At 23 years of age, Head of the Army Department aboard HMAS Kanimbla, then Australia’s largest Navy ship
  • First woman in the Army to complete the physically demanding Navy Diver course
  • Fast-roped from helicopters, boarded ships smuggling contraband & served with elite American Navy Seals in the Arabian Gulf
  • Helped track down a notorious militia leader in the Solomon Islands
  • Trained in three languages & holds a Masters in Project Management
  • Earned eight military medals
  • The only Australian to be awarded two Republic of Lebanon War Medals.

 Dress code: Black tie.
