Event description

Description

Everyone deserves a safe and comfortable place to live. In the past hundred years or so the challenge of housing has been intensified by the increasing complexity and density of urban life. This special edition of the Architecture Street talks coincides with the Sydney Architecture Festival to explore the potential and possibilities for housing affordability in the inner west.

Gabrielle Suhr and Charles Peters from SJB Architects will present their Illawarra Road project, a mixed-use affordable rental co-housing scheme in partnership with Fresh Hope and Nightingale Housing, located in Marrickville.

Gabrielle Suhr is a Senior Associate at SJB and believes in the value of community. She always strives to bring a joyful element and level of delight into the built environment. Gabrielle focuses on creating close client relationships in order to achieve rewarding architectural projects. She maintains a belief in creative collaborations bringing richness and rigour to architectural outcomes.

Charles Peters is an Associate Director at SJB with a background in spanning infrastructure, retail, residential, hospitality and commercial projects. He specialises in complex urban sites, maximising efficiency and optimising design outcomes. Charles’ process of considered, innovative and collaborative design has resulted in multiple award-winning projects.

Curated and introduced by local architects Sam Rigoli and Dr Michael Zanardo, this Architecture Street talk is presented in association with the New South Wales Architects Registration Board and Inner West Council.

For the Sydney Architecture Festival, a 30-minute tour of the New Marrickville Library will be offered before the talk. BVN Architects will describe how the design incorporates a heritage building with contemporary architecture to create an engaging space for Marrickville’s diverse community. Meet outside the main library foyer for a 5:45pm start.
