Learn how to use Esri's ArcPy site-package for Python at ArcGIS 10.1 (including SP1 and 10.2) from a starting point of knowing no Python!
This one-day course is taught by an ArcGIS Geoprocessing, ArcPy and Python Specialist with 25+ years of experience. It teaches introductory Python as well as ArcPy for Geoprocessing and Mapping and is designed for GIS analysts and specialists, who want to start learning ArcPy and Python to customise ArcGIS for geoprocessing, mapping and data access using ArcGIS 10.1 or 10.2.
After completing this course, you will have the skills and confidence to:
Understand the basics of the Python programming language
Use Esri’s site-package for Python (arcpy) to create Geoprocessing workflows
Perform automation using the Mapping module of ArcPy (arcpy.mapping)
Iterate through feature classes and tables using cursors of the Data Access module (arcpy.da) to read, write and insert rows
The course runs from 9:00 am-5:00 pm (but arrival at or soon after 8:30 is recommended) and class sizes are normally 6-10 students.
Lunch plus morning tea, and all day coffee/tea, water, snacks, etc are included.
Participants must be familiar with the use of ArcGIS 10 and Windows based software.
"For someone such as myself, with limited programming experience, the course provided an excellent introduction to the use of Python and ArcGIS. Would highly recommend it." - Stephen from Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage Protection
NOTE:
Participants are required to bring their own laptop (or PC) with ArcGIS for Desktop 10.2 (10.1 and 10.1 SP1 are fine for this course too), and Python 2.7 installed, and to have tested that their configuration is working disconnected from any internet connection prior to attending the training. If your laptop is able to access a public internet then wireless is available to browse online help etc, but this is NOT required for any of the exercises.
Only an ArcGIS Basic (formerly called ArcView) license with no extensions is required.
Whether your laptop (or PC) meets the Minimum (and preferably Recommended) specification can be checked against the ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop System Requirements which include a test which can be run to do so. The training venue will provide a large monitor, keyboard, mouse and internet access.
Bringing your own laptop and ArcGIS license enables us to deliver this training for $599 (inc GST) which is discounted from its RRP of $750. If you have some of your own data on your laptop you will be able to re-run exercises of interest against that while still in the classroom. It also lets you know that all course exercises can be revised later in your office or at home!
If you are unable to provide your own laptop and ArcGIS license, or are unable to purchase using the Credit Card facilities provided here, please contact Graeme Browning (graeme@polygeo.com.au; 0412 038 384) direct or via the Contact the Organizer button.
