APSIG June Monthly Meeting - Thyroid Diseases

In Australia, approximately 60,000 new cases of thyroid disease are diagnosed each year. Treatment is often straightforward however pitfalls may lead to misdiagnosis, over diagnosis and inappropriate treatment (MJA). Attend this workshop, delivered by Head of Endocrinology Western Health, A/Prof Shane Hamblin to learn the role of pharmacists in patients with thyroid diseases.
This evening will commence with a literature review by Professor Louis Roller.
Networking and refreshments from 7pm.

- Discuss the role of the thyroid gland and thyroid hormones in the body
- Explain the pathophysiology of common thyroid diseases particularly hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism and thyroiditis
- Compare the use of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options for the above thyroid diseases
- Demonstrate (using case studies) the role of pharmacists in the medication management of thyroid diseases
