Event description

Description

This is a PSA member exclusive event

Falls among the elderly are a serious issue, and falls-related injury is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in older Australians. Almost one in three Australians over 65 years will suffer a fall each year. Falls in the elderly can have serious consequences, including significant disability and even death. Research has shown that many falls can be prevented by recognising and addressing the risks.

Pharmacists can play a vital role in falls assessment and prevention, providing medication review, quality use of medicines and targeted education.

This evening will commence with a literature review by Professor Louis Roller.

Networking and refreshments from 7pm.

Workshop to commence at 7:30pm.

*Eventbrite ticket is for registration purposes only. Please bring your PSA membership on the night for CPD recording.

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

  • Discuss the epidemiology and patterns of falls

  • Review common causes of falls including medications and chronic disease states that increase the risk of falls

  • Recognize opportunities at transitions of care for identifying falls risk
