The Applying the NCSS Workshop – Category 1 entities is made up of three modules, each delivered using video-conferencing software so that participants have the opportunity to interact throughout the session and participate in a live Q&A.

Participation in all three modules will meet the requirements under the NCSS and will result in the issuing of a Certificate of Attendance which you can provide to your entity.

Module Two = 2.00pm– 3.30pm AEST

Module 3 = 10.00am – 12.00pm AEST

This session is intended for those in operational roles across Church entities, those with key safeguarding responsibilities within the scope of their role and any interested in learning more about the NCSS and how to improve safeguarding practices within Church entities.

As the name suggests, this session has an operational/implementation focus. The session includes:

• An in-depth look at the ten National Catholic Safeguarding Standards and criteria which Category 1 entities need to implement.

• Exploring how to create and maintain a culture of safeguarding.

• Developing an implementation plan and building continuous improvement into your safeguarding systems.

• Engaging children and hearing their voices as part of a child-centred culture.

• Engaging with families and communities to build safe ministries.

• Developing strategies and approaches to identify, assess and minimise risk of harm.

• Responding to concerns, disclosures and allegations of abuse.


Who should register to attend?

This session is specifically for Category 1 Church entities who work with children.

Working with children means that the Church Authority has governance responsibilities for activities and/or ministries that work with children. Work with children means being engaged in activities and/or ministries with children where contact would be reasonably expected as a normal part of the activity and/or ministry and the contact is not incidental to the activity.

*Please note that Category 1 entities include all dioceses*

This session is open to anyone in Category 1 entities who wants to learn more about the NCSS and how to improve safeguarding practices within Church entities. Participants may include:

• Directors/managers of areas including safeguarding, business and human resources

• Vicars general

• Chancellors

• Chairs of safeguarding committees

• Clergy and religious

• Parish representatives

• Compliance/risk managers

How many representatives should attend?

There is no limit on registrations from any one entity.

How much does it cost?

$100pp + GST

Requirements :

A computer (Mac OS X or Windows) is preferred, but any device with a browser and speakers/headset can work. Google Chrome is the preferred browser. High speed internet will enhance your experience, 3mbps is the recommended minimum – test your speed here.

CPSL use Zoom as content delivery and videoconferencing software which enables us to engage with our partners and stakeholders in an accessible way. CPSL are actively using security and privacy features within the Zoom platform to maintain and protect privacy within our videoconferencing. When you have registered to attend one of our sessions, we will contact you with secure login details to join our session.
