About this Event
Our Workshop will explore the common condition of anxiety and its effect on those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
For these children, anxiety may present as some of the more common characteristics associated with autism such as stimming, obsessive and ritualistic behaviours and resistance to changes in routine.
Attendees will learn what anxiety is and gain an understanding of why it is common in children with ASD, as well as practical strategies for assisting children in managing their anxiety effectively.
This Workshop will cover:
• The various presentations including behaviours, thoughts and physiological signs of anxiety
• Identifying behaviours that may indicate high levels of anxiety
• Understanding why anxiety is commonly associated with autism
• Learning tools and strategies to support children in managing their anxiety
This Workshop is suitable for parents of children on the spectrum, as well as complimentary service providers, clinical professionals or carers working with these children.
Presented by Natasha Stocco, Psychologist.
About the presenter: Natasha has been working as a Psychologist with Irabina for 3.5 years. She holds a Bachelors degree with Honours, as well as a Masters in Psychology. Natasha’s passion is working with children on the spectrum in the areas of psychological assessment (cognitive, adaptive behaviour, social, emotional) and intervention (CBT, Skills Training).
Within child psychology sessions, she enjoys being creative by incorporating the child’s interests to make talking about emotions less scary and/or boring, enabling clients to better understand themselves and cope with their challenges (social and or emotional).
