Daniel (Hugo Weaving) is a war photographer who has just returned home from his latest dangerous overseas assignment and is beginning preparations for an upcoming retrospective exhibition of his work from the world’s war zones. That is, until a South Sudanese refugee named Sebastian (Andrew Luri) appears at his door with a request: that he not exhibit any photographs of the massacre in his village, taken 15 years earlier.

What emerges is an unlikely friendship between the two men, which is severely tested when Daniel makes a shocking discovery that causes both men to question their pasts – and puts their futures into doubt.

The directorial debut of internationally awarded photographer Ben Lawrence, this Australian drama is an intelligent, morally complex, deeply moving and, above all, beautifully acted. Weaving is a stalwart, as always, but newcomer (and former garbage truck driver) Luri is an absolute revelation.
