An opportunity for students and teachers to visit three of Australia’s top Antarctic research facilities.

About this Event

Visits available for the AAD (Australian Antarctic Division), CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) and IMAS (Institute for Marine and Antarctic Research) who will once again open their facilities for the “Antarctic Experience" student engagement program. Places are limited so early booking is recommended. Morning sessions suitable for upper primary to college level, afternoon sessions suitable for high school and college only.

DAY 1 Thursday 14th Nov 2019 - IMAS, CSIRO – Hobart

Morning Session CSIRO (120 places available - limit of 30 students per school)

9:45 am Registration at CSIRO

10:00 am Overview of Antarctic and Southern Ocean research.12:00 noon Finish morning session

Afternoon Session IMAS and CSIRO (40 places available - limit of 10 students per school)

12:30 pm Small group Tours of facilities at IMAS and CSIRO

2:45 pm Close

DAY 2 Friday 15th Nov 2019 - AAD Kingston and CSIRO

Morning Session (120 places available - limit of 30 students per school)

9:45 am Meet for registration at the AAD

10:00 am Introductions and welcome, Overview of the AAD, Meet researchers, Live video link with Davis Station.

12:00 Noon Finish morning session.

Afternoon Session (24 places available - limit of 6 students per school)

12:45 pm Tour of Australian Antarctic Division labs and facilities

2:45 pm Close

Day three Sunday 17th November - Option Flight over Antarctica
