Event description

Description

Learn about how to present informative and entertaining papers with Julie Finlayson.

Please take time to consider the topic prior to this workshop. Come prepared with questions for Dr Finlayson and any thoughts you would like to share with the group.

Refreshments/lunch will be provided in the breaks between workshops.

After graduation as a social anthropologist Julie enjoyed a period of teaching and researching at La Trobe University and ANU. She also worked as an independent consultant for 4 years before joining the Australian Government in their Indigenous program areas (legal aid, CDEP, Native title, night patrols). In recent years she has worked in an Indigenous community housing project (rent-to-purchase) in north western NSW, and as manager of an Indigenous community radio in far western NSW.

Julie has conducted research and published work on welfare-based Indigenous households, Indigenous cultural tourism, native title, what makes for successful Indigenous organisations, and has participated in legislative review teams on native title representative bodies, the former Councils and Associations Act.

She is currently Research Fellow at the Centre for Native Title Anthropology at the ANU which runs tailored activities (such as workshops, conference and university-based opportunities) to support the community of native title practitioners Australia-wide. She has an interest in helping to communicate anthropology to a wider audience than simply that of academic peers.
