Brisbane hosting its first Ana and Vlade Divac Humanitarian Cocktail Evening Fundraiser to assist families in Serbia in need of housing
International basketball star Vlade Divac is back in Australia to raise money for his humanitarian projects as part of the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation.
The fundraiser will enable better living conditions for the refugees and internally displaced people in Serbia.
‘Collective Centres’ were established 20 years ago as a safe alternative to a war zone but now in 2014 the living conditions are no longer considered acceptable and funds raised will provide housing for the remaining 143 (out of 515) families still in these centres.
Serbian-born, Australian-based, internationally renowned operatic mezzo soprano Milijana Nikolić and Italian-Australian tenor Rosario La Spina will be performing arias from the opera Carmen and Rigoletto, popular Italian canzone and selected works by Serbian composers at the cocktail evening.
Milijana last performed in Brisbane in 2010 as Amneris in Aida for Opera Australia. Since then she has performed the title role in Carmen for the Savolinna Festival in Finland and the role of Mrs Dalton in Bliss for Opera Australia and Edinburgh Festival. In 2014 she will sing Carmen in Sydney and Melbourne with Opera Australia as well as throughout Japan.
Esteemed guest His Grace Irinej Serbian Orthodox Bishop of Australia and New Zealand will be present at the event along with other special guests.
On the night guests will enjoy a fabulous selection of drinks and Serbian food. There will also be a Silent Auction.
Newstead precinct metered parking until 7PM
The Director of the Divac Foundation, Ana Koeshall, has confirmed that Ana & Vlade Divac will be travelling to Australia and Brisbane for this event despite their recent family tragedy. Condolences have been sent to the Divac family from Brisbane.
