Join Rachel Franks and Paula Hamilton for a lively conversation about Robert ‘Nosey Bob’ Howard, the longest-serving executioner for New South Wales. Find out why someone would take on the much-hated role of hangman and hear about some of the issues around writing a biography of Sydney’s most infamous public servant.
Rachel Franks holds PhDs in Australian crime fiction from Central Queensland University and true crime texts from the University of Sydney. A qualified educator and librarian, her work on crime fiction, true crime, popular culture and information science has been presented at numerous conferences as well as on radio and television. Rachel is an award-winning writer whose research can be found in a wide variety of books, journals, magazines and online resources. On Twitter @cfwriter.
Paula Hamilton is adjunct Professor of History at the Australian Centre for Public History, UTS and Macquarie University, Sydney. She is a cultural historian who has published in memory studies, exploring the intersection between biographies and public memories. She is also a public historian and has collaborated in a range of historical projects with libraries, community groups, museums, heritage agencies. Her forthcoming work is The Australian History Industry (edited with Paul Ashton) Cambridge Scholars Press 2022.
