An Introduction to Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) - A 2 day workshop on 19 and 20 August 2021

DBT has demonstrated efficacy for people with emotion dysregulation difficulties. This 2–day workshop will provide an overview of the theory and principles of DBT and how to practice DBT both within group and individual therapy. It will include key aspects of acceptance and change, with a focus on validation and behaviour change principles. This workshop is suitable for mental health clinicians new to DBT as well as those with prior experience.

Presenters :

Zoe Gibbs is a Senior Clinical Psychologist at Spectrum where she provides DBT for adults, young people and their families. She’s been with Spectrum for several years now where she coordinates the DBT team. She has a particular interest in working with BPD in a youth population, having spent several years working at the Maudsley hospital in London where she specialised in DBT for adolescents, in addition to experience within the CYMHS sector in Victoria.

Marianne Weddell is a Clinical Psychologist with 20 years experience in public and private setting treating a wide range of disorders, managing teams, training staff and supervising/mentoring clinicians. She has a special interest and significant experience with Borderline Personality Disorder, in particular developing service and family systems to work effectively in this space. She believes in therapy as a tool to help people understand themselves, their passions and build a life worth living.

Who should attend? Mental health clinicians new to DBT as well as those with prior experience.

Cost: $440 (payable by credit card only)

Lunch: A light lunch, morning and afternoon tea including a vegetarian selection is provided.

Getting to Spectrum: Spectrum is located at 110 Church Street, on the corner of Church Street and Tweedie Place. Entrance is via the front of the building, to the right of the Skoda car dealership.

Public transport:

  • Tram 78 on Church Street. Alight at Tweedie Pl/Church Street (Stop 63).
  • Tram 109 on Victoria Parade (about a 5 min walk to 110 Church Street)
  • Tram 75 on Bridge Rd (about a 7 min walk to 110 Church Street)

Car parking:

There is very limited 2 hour street parking available in the area. All day parking is available in:

  • Shelley Street, Richmond (between Butler and Elizabeth Streets) -about 1km walk to Church St (about $10/day).
  • Coles Richmond Plaza car park (261 Bridge Rd, Richmond) https://www.interpark.com.au/parkings/coles-richmond-plaza-car-park/ (about $16/day). About 8 mins walk or catch the No 78 tram.
  • 459 Church Street, Richmond http://www.carepark.com.au/find-a-care-park/459- church-street-richmond/ (about $16/day). About a 20 min walk or catch the No 78 tram.

A refund will not be issued if notification has not been received within this time frame and you will be required to pay for the event.

Organiser Spectrum Personality Disorder Service

Organiser of An Introduction to Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)(2 days)- 19 & 20 Aug

Spectrum is a specialist statewide service for personality disorder for Victoria. Spectrum supports and works with Victorian Area Mental Health Services (AMHS) and health professionals to provide treatment for people aged 16-64 who are assessed as having personality disorder. Spectrum provides secondary consultation, training, workforce development and advocacy as well as direct clinical work for those for whom a specialist service is most appropriate.
