- Safety and how to open and inspect the beehive, how to safely smoke it, how to safely remove frames.
- How to identify pests and diseases and treatment methods.
- Honey extraction and beeswax recovery methods
- How to build a frame
- How to keep a hive healthy and strong.
- What is needed to start beekeeping
- How to source bees and create nucleus hives
- How to register to become a beekeeper and the responsibilities of beekeeping, and the important role that bee associations play today.
- You’ll be taught to build a frame, learn about seasonal duties and how to keep a hive healthy and strong.
The day will be a combination of theory, a little bit of history, and plenty of practical hands-on learning.
Morning and afternoon tea will be provided as well as a gourmet lunch with veggies from the Merribee gardens.
The day will conclude at 5.00pm and you will go home with the knowledge to set up your own hive or maintain your existing hive with confidence.
Dave will share his twenty years’ of experience and knowledge in his genuine and generous way - he welcomes every single question you have.
In order to gain the maximum out of the workshop, we are limiting the size of the class. We would suggest reserving your place early as we expect places to fill fast.
