Event description

Description

Amy's Bike Skills is a FREE 4-week program designed to give you the skills and confidence to ride your bike more often.

Developed by the Amy Gillett Foundation and delivered by experienced female instructors from Wheel Women, Amy's Bike Skills teaches safe cycling skills, navigation skills and basic bike maintenance skills.

This is the second of two Amy's Bike Skills programs for female students in Year 10, 11 or 12 at Newcomb Secondary College. It will run for 4-weeks:

  • Wednesday 22 November, 3:45pm - 5:45pm
  • Wednesday 29 November, 3:45pm - 5:45pm
  • Wednesday 06 December, 3:45pm - 5:45pm
  • Wednesday 13 December, 3:45pm - 5:45pm

Each week we'll meet at Newcomb Secondary College. We'll be using a mix of off-road bike paths and quiet streets to practice various skills. We'll return to the school at the end of each session.

The program is not suitable for complete beginners and participants are expected to already have some basic riding skills. The program will build on these skills and give you the confidence to ride more.

What you'll learn

Over 4 weeks, you'll learn how to:

  • Start, stop and corner safely
  • Change gears
  • Use signals
  • Ride on paths and quiet roads
  • Look after your bike and fix a flat tyre
  • Plan routes, and much more!

Every participant will receive a free showbag of goodies and a free drink in local café during every session.
