AMPS’ Amplifying Your Research Career Series 2022: July Seminar

How do you respond to feedback, particularly when it is critical of your work? Our response to feedback is reflective of our attitude to learning, and academic life is all about learning. From our earliest days as undergraduates, through to PhD study and peer review of our research, using feedback constructively can become a superpower for learning. Sometimes this feedback can be hard to receive. This session will provide you with practical strategies for dealing with and responding constructively to any and all feedback to enhance your own learning and development, and build resilience as a researcher. You will learn to view feedback not as something to be feared, but as something to be welcomed.

Our presenter: Dr Melissa Forbes is a music educator, practitioner-researcher, and leader in learning and teaching. As a music educator and through her PhD research (2016), Melissa helped establish collaborative learning in music at USQ which values the learning and teaching contributions of both teachers and peers. She supervises PhD, DCA and Honours students on a broad range of topics related to singing and music pedagogy and practice. In addition to her research, artistic, and higher education experience, Melissa is an admitted solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland with almost a decade of legal experience in both the public and private sectors. This broad range of professional experiences has helped Melissa to cultivate a positive attitude towards all feedback on her work and performance.
