10 Weeks Belly Dance Series with Amara 

Tuesdays:18 Jul - 19 Sep for 10 weeks

6.30 pm:* Introduction to Belly Dance
7.30 pm:* Choreography//Performance class (no performing necessary)

1 class series: $160
2 class series: $270
Casual drop-in for class: $18
Causal drop-in for both classes $30

All levels welcomed!

Introduction to Belly Dance
No dance experience is required! This class is for students new to belly dance and those who want to refresh skills or practice the basics. Explore Middle Eastern dance by developing a strong foundation in posture, isolation techniques, muscle control, choreographic sequences, and musicality. In addition, you will learn terminology and the history of Middle Eastern and Belly Dance. Each class includes dynamic warm up, technique, choreography or improvisation, and cool down. It is recommended that students take the whole series, but drop-ins are always welcomed.

Choreography/Performance (No performing necessary or required.)
Learn Raqs al Amara (Amara's student performing group) choreography, including entrance, veil, and drum solo. Work on performing techniques, staging, and costumes.Show TBC for the Spring.

*Classes are 55 min.

Amara Dances, PhD

Amara is one of the most versatile dancers in the United States and Australia as her repertory includes traditional and experimental improvisations and choreographies.

She has trained in numerous dance and movement forms, including belly dance, various Middle Eastern folk dances, Modern improvisation, Post-modern dance, Pilates, Yoga, Tango, Bharata Natyam, and Ballet.

Amara has been the head dancer at many nightclubs and restaurants in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Austin and has been featured in over 15 commercial Middle Eastern dance videos.

She has taught accredited courses at UCLA, UCR, and Cal Poly Pomona and currently teaches on-going Beginning through Professional level Middle Eastern dance classes and workshops. She is the Director of Training 4 Dance Teachers.

In addition to teaching and performing, Amara is the Executive Producer of the Austin Belly Dance Convention, Producer of EEMED shows, the Director of Ya Helewa! Dance Company, and Co-Producer of X-MED workshops.

Amara has a PhD in Dance History and Theory (UCR), a BA in Ethnomusicology (FSU), and worked towards an MA and MFA in Dance (UCLA).
