Event description

Description

A wonderful opportunity to come together, share information and hear latest news from the national yoga community and the work of Yoga Australia. Lynn Romeo is the new Tasmania representative on the YA National Management Committee. While she is visiting Alice Springs, Lynn is offering to share information about YA and gather your questions and suggestions to take back to the national committee. Before the meeting, Lynn will also offer, as professional development:

THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF YOGA - supporting the release and healing of trauma

Workshop for YogaTeachers

The impacts of trauma (large and small) can be held, felt or hidden anywhere in our bodies, thought processes or emotional make-up. As yoga teachers we know that Yoga has, for thousands of years, helped people onto their path towards healing/wholeness. With renewed focus on mindfulness and trauma in many fields of human service, more professions are turning to yoga's ancient practices. We can feel affirmed in all we are doing and we can all be a part of this positive paradigm shift and the practical partnerships and solutions it holds for our work.*

Join us for a nurturing journey through distilled wisdom, metaphor and research to glimpse the blockages that trauma creates and the ways yoga, quite naturally, helps to release the effects.

FACILITATOR:

Lynn Romeo (www.lynnromeoyoga.com.au) straddles mainstream, alternative, professional and creative realms. She worked for many years as a social worker and then found the balance that yoga brings so inspiring, she could not help but become a Yoga teacher. She has taught in the Gita tradition for 26 years, in Melbourne and Hobart. In recent years, Lynn has been liberated by renewed focus, world-wide, on the healing of trauma through yoga. In these workshops, Lynn draws on her personal and professional experience and studies in Trauma Sensitive Yoga with the Trauma Centre in Boston, directed by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk (Prof of Psychiatry, Boston University, pioneer in the field of trauma and advocate for the healing value of yoga). Lynn has been invited to Alice Springs by music teacher & yogi, Nicola Gilham, in order to support school teachers and community workers.
