This day trip provides members of the public a rare opportunity to visit a palaeontological site while a dig is in process.
About this event
The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory will take you on a full day tour from Alice Springs to the Alcoota Scientific Reserve, a site normally closed to the public. The tour will be guided by staff from the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory who will provide a detailed geological and historical briefing. There will be hands on activities for kids and an opportunity to view the surrounding landscape from a stunning highpoint on the site.
This bus tour is open to people aged over 6 years. Attendees aged between 6 -16 must be accompanied by an adult ticket holder. The site is approximately 200km from Alice Springs; the bus trip is expected to take two and a half hours.
START: Meet at 8.00am at the Museum of Central Australia, Memorial Avenue.
BRING: Hat, sunscreen, water bottle and comfortable closed shoes. BYO lunch or purchase from Gemtree on the return trip.
FINISH: 5.15pm at the Museum of Central Australia, Memorial Avenue.
