Description

Amble about Albion

Join members of Brisbane City Council’s City Architecture and Heritage Team on a guided tour through the historic suburb of Albion. The hour and a half walking tour highlights important historical places, colourful stories and infamous events that have shaped Albion’s history.

They include the early settlement of the area and the establishment of the first hotel in the 1860’s, the coming of industry, the important war-time activity centred in Albion and the commercial history of the intact historic streetscape along Sandgate Road.

The trail begins at the Albion Hotel on Sandgate Road. It then passes the former site of the Albion Flour Mill, up Sandgate Road to the historic residence Whytecliffe, down the hill to Crosby Park and then through some of Albion’s oldest suburban streets. From here the trail travels up Sandgate Road to the historic commercial centre of Albion.
