Explore the refreshed Australian Library of Art Showcase with a curator, and don white gloves to handle some rare and unique items

About this event

Following the Queensland Government’s latest COVID-19 update, all State Library spaces will be open from 10am Saturday 3 April and our onsite events from Saturday will proceed as planned.

As per government advice, you must wear a mask during your visit (children under 12 and people affected by a medical condition or disability are exempt).

The health and safety of our visitors and staff is our top priority. Our spaces are sanitised regularly and sanitising products are available for you to use.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

The Australian Library of Art Showcase, on level 4, has recently been redesigned and refreshed with content from the amazing collections that make up the Australian Library of Art. Documenting the art and craft of the book in Australia and beyond, come and discover rare antiquities, woodblocks from the birth of the printing press to printed material from the early 20th century, the sketching tools, diaries and printing plates of major Australian artists, unique artworks and publications from the significant Lindsay Collection of Pat Corrigan, as well as a wide variety of artists’ books – a key strength of these collections.

The current temporary display, New Acquisitions, highlights the best of State Library’s artists’ books acquisitions over the last two years. This will be followed mid-year by a showcase of exquisite examples of botanical illustration coinciding with our major exhibition Entwined: plants and people, charting the ways in which people use and rely on plants in Queensland.

Join a Curator and be guided through the treasures of the Australian Library of Art. Each Curator’s Tour will feature a mini White Gloves Experience, where participants will be able to handle items and gain fascinating insights into their creation. Discover the stories behind these powerful and sometimes surprising objects.

Curator’s Tours with mini White Gloves Experience will commence at 11am. Please meet the Curator inside the Australian Library of Art Showcase.

Please note, the Australian Library of Art Showcase has a maximum capacity of 10 people under current COVID-19 restrictions, and bookings are essential to secure your place.
