Airing Jumps[3hrs]: Kids MTB Skills (~11-14 year olds)
Overview
Do your kids want to fly, but you would prefer a better option than only learning from their own mistakes? Sign them up to our "airing jumps" clinic to give them the skills and knowledge to understand what they are doing, and how to progress as safely as possible. Our small groups, expert instructors, and rider-first coaching style means all learning styles and confidence levels are catered for.
John Dunn Challenge Park provides a perfect area to learn, with open grassed spaces, different sized pump tracks, and jump lines for beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert jumpers; with lots of space between them. We may be sharing the space with other park users, but this has minimal impact.
Like our adult jump clinics, we will cover some skills that can be worked on anywhere (so they can practice at home, even without jumps), break down what needs to be considered when trying new jumps, and get time on the tabletop jumps with personalised feedback. We tackle the mental challenge of progressing your jumping (the hard part!), as well as the technical skills. We guarantee you will come out of this session a whole lot more confident riding through jumps.
This clinic covers riders who have already started jumping, as well as those who don't yet have the confidence to get airbourne. We'll work on how to control your jumping, even when things go wrong. At every point each participant is able to chose how much to challenge themselves.
⚠️⚠️⚠️
Participants must be confident riding offroad (up and down hill) without needing to stop or put a foot on the ground; this is not for first-time riders.
All riders MUST be able to ride with 1 finger over the end of at least the rear brake lever AT ALL TIMES and be able to come to a stop like this while standing. Parents must ensure that bikes are setup to allow this before the clinic starts. Coaster (back pedal) brakes are not permitted. This is likely not possible if the brake lever:
- mount touches the inner edge of the grip.
- is angled down more than 45 degrees from horizontal.
- can be squeezed to touch the grip.
- end sits further out then the index finger joint, not allowing the finger to wrap around.
Contact us for clarification/assistance if needed.
Helmets are mandatory, full face helmets are highly encouraged.
⚠️⚠️⚠️
The 11-14 year old ange range is a suggestion based on the expected physical and mental capabilities of the participants. This is a 3 hour clinic. Consider the capabilities of your kids before you sign them up. Contact us if you have any queries on suitability.
Standard information:
- You MUST be present from the start of the clinic. If you miss our safety talk we are not able to have you join the group. This is for everyone's well-being, and is a requirement enforced on us that we can’t make exceptions for. We suggest arriving at least 15 minutes early to ensure you and your bike are prepared and ready to go on time.
- You will need to provide your own bike and all equipment (at least a helmet and enclosed shoes). They must be fully operational.
- Ensure you have enough water, snacks and sunscreen for the duration of the clinic.
- Requires 3 attendees for the event to run, or the event will be rescheduled.
- Parents are requested NOT to observe the clinic (as this impacts the dynamic of kids participating in the group). Parents must be present for the start and end, and kids under 12 must have a parent stay on-site.
