Taking Australian Manufacturing to the world - A story of Innovation in Business and Technology
Where others saw a failing business, Philip Butler saw opportunity and set up a Management Buyout of a textile company based in Melbourne. On the horizon was the closing of existing domestic automotive markets. To survive, a business transition was essential. With this platform, Philip Butler and his family, have created a highly successful textile company which manufactures components for diapers, femcare and incontinence products. With constant innovation, the company has transformed into a state-of-the-art operation, supplying multinationals operating throughout the world. This family owned SME, has learnt to collaborate with Australian research to benefit their business and take world-class innovation into global supply chains and now exports to 18 countries around the world.
In recognition of this success, in 2014 Textor were awarded the AIRG Medal for Australasian SME Technological Innovation. This medal recognised the innovative methods used to produce the next generation nappy, which was commercially released within a year of its concept. Not only did this include development of ultra-absorbent material, but also the development of a new manufacturing process with unique technologies.
In addition to leading this successful transformation, Phillip has been the Chair of the Textile, Clothing and Footwear Industries Innovation Council; member of the Prime Minister’s Manufacturing Taskforce; member of the National Placed Base Advisory Group (Department of Human Services); Deputy Chair of the National Precinct Board; and previously Chair of the Innovative Manufacturing CRC.
