Scooter Assessment & Training

Aimed at therapists new to mobility scooter or basic power wheelchairs as well as therapists wanting a deeper understanding of Powered Mobility Device assessment, training, rules and resources. The workshop will include a combination of a “virtual” lecture style presentation by our featured presenter which will include an introduction to the PoMoDATT standardised assessment. There will be opportunity to discuss case studies and issues encountered by occupational therapists who work in this area. The morning will be also include a practical component exploring the features of powered mobility devices. This will be facilitated in the showroom by Aidacare AT Consultants and Occupational Therapists Astrid Van Den Berg, Leonie Brockman and your friendly Aidacare Mildura Team.


LO1 To be able to identify the skills required for safe use of a powered mobility device

LO2 Increased confidence in assessing and training clients in how to use powered mobility devices (scooters and basic powered wheelchairs)

LO3 Greater understanding of client considerations during assessment and training for powered mobility devices

LO4 Increased knowledge of the issues related to powered mobility device use

LO5 Introduction to and practical experience in using the Powered Mobility Device Assessment Training Tool (PoMoDATT)


Kathryn Townsend

Occupational Therapist

Kathryn is a highly experienced occupational therapist working in a community health setting. She is a trained occupational therapy driver assessor with a keen interest in the assessment and training of powered mobility device users. Kathryn is passionate about the way powered mobility device use can positively impact on quality of life and community participation. She is co-author of the Powered Mobility Device Assessment and Training Tool (PoMoDATT). She has conducted many workshops and conference presentations and has published articles about powered mobility device use.

Astrid Van Den Berg

Complex Rehab Equipment Specialist

Astrid has many years’ experience working as a wheelchair and seating specialist Occupational Therapist. Astrid works for the Complex Rehab team at Aidacare in Geelong and visits Mildura once a month to work with local therapist’s on Complex wheelchair and seating prescriptions.

Leonie Brockman

Training and Development Coordinator and Occupational Therapist

Leonie is an Occupational Therapist with many years’ experience working in Community Health and Aged Care settings. She currently works for Aidacare in Geelong and as the Training and Development Coordinator for Vic, SA and Tas.
