Aged Care Royal Commission - What's in it for You
Event Information
About this Event
Now that the final report from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety is public, the Australian government will assess and decide the recommendations to implement.
The Older Persons Advocacy Network welcomes the government's initial response to the findings and stands ready to work alongside the government and other stakeholders to implement the recommendations.
The Royal Commission's final report has highlighted the need for and recommended :
- A new rights-based Aged Care Act
- Improved workforce conditions and capabilities
- Enhanced advocacy
- Increased funding
We must develop and deliver a rights-based aged care system, where the rights of older people are embedded in legislation that respects and protects older people.
Doing so will provide the framework for shaping the aged care system to one where older people are front and centre. The choice and dignity of older people should be the top priority.
We want to see older people empowered and enabled to self-manage their home care packages and have the option of seeking a care manager if they wish.
We are bringing together a panel of experts to talk through the Royal Commission's findings and what they mean for you.
