Event description
Hear from the doctors who risked imprisonment to speak out for refugees held in Papua New Guinea and Nauru.

About this Event

Hundreds of people who sought asylum in Australia by boat are now held in offshore detention, in Papua New Guinea and Nauru.

Doctors have had their their medical decisions repeatedly overridden by politicians and bureaucrats, who want to prevent people from getting treatment in Australia.

Despite being threatened with imprisonment, they have continued to speak out.

"If I would have played it by the book I'd have said nothing and watched these patients die." - Former Chief Medical Officer Dr Nick Martin

WATCH THE TRAILER HERE.

Join us for this special film screening and Q&A with Dr Helen Young.

Filmed over four years in ten countries, this film goes behind hospital doors to hear from the clinicians who worked on the islands, and the people held there, who spoke out to save lives.

Their voices led to the passing of the Medevac Law earlier this year, which ensured medical decisions remained with doctors. But the Australian government wants to repeal it and a decision will be made in just a few weeks time.

There has never been a more important time to spread the message that medical decisions should remain with doctors.

Join us for this SPECIAL FILM SCREENING to amplify doctors voices and stand in solidarity with those still held in Papua New Guinea and Nauru.

All proceeds go to RACS to support free legal service for people seeking protection in Australia.
