Event description

Description

On February 1, all forms of codeine became prescription-only medicines. GPs are the most important resource for patients seeking help with these changes, and pharmaceutical opioid dependence is one of the presenting issues for GPs, particularly those in regional areas. This workshop will focus on identifying and managing codeine and other pharmaceutical opioid dependence in a General Practice setting. With Real Time Prescription Monitoring for opioids and other medicines coming in the second half of 2018, these skills will become increasingly important in General Practice.

Dr. Paul MacCartney is a GP who has worked in Fitzroy for the past 17 years and Shepparton for the past six. He has a special interest in addiction medicine and has been training doctors to become prescribers of Suboxone and methadone for many years. Paul is keen for as many doctors as possible to be confident in managing their patients struggling with addiction.
